Global Wireless Education Consortium (GWEC)

Matt McCormick was a featured presenter in the Global Wireless Education Consortium's (GWEC) webinar on May 1st, 2007. The topic: VoWLAN (Voice over Wireless LAN).

According to Disruptive Analysis, by 2009 46.8 million VoWLAN phones will be on the market, of which 64% will be dual-mode devices. With the first dual-mode handsets available now, VoWLAN is real and bound to revolutionize the telecommunication landscape.

New players such as ISPs and fixed line operators can now enter the mobile market, offer additional mobile services, and win market share. To find your place in this market, a lot of crucial problems have to be solved:

  • How to guarantee QoS (Quality of Service)?
  • How to optimize seamless hand-over between different access points?
  • How to define a successful business model?

In this one-hour webinar, presenters Matthew McCormick with Technology Decisions, Inc. and Dan Reis with Spectralink provided a technical overview of VoWLAN and described how VoWLAN deployment can serve as a significant step toward interoperability and seamless mobile connectivity between private WLANs and public wireless and cellular networks.

Illinois Institute of Technology

Matt McCormick spoke at the Illinois Institute of Technology's NETSECURE 07 conference on March 21st, 2007.

His topic was: "Proactively Identifying and Troubleshooting WLAN Security Threats & Performance Issues at Remote Sites". Attendees rated this presentation an excellent 4.6 out of 5.

Sending an experienced technician or engineer on a plane is a very common first step in response to complex WLAN problems that arises at remote sites. Especially in cases where 802.11 applications are mission critical to business operations or carry highly sensitive information. This method of problem remediation is costly and can add days of delay. Those attending this session will: 1. More easily define their need for remote identification and troubleshooting of security threats and performance issues. 2. Discover important architectural key points to a successful solution. 3. Learn about ways to combine the latest in commercial technology while building your WLAN expertise to enable proactive notification, and expert, real-time troubleshooting of the toughest wireless problems at remote sites. 4. Learn about the latest in an 802.11n update, time permitting.”
